Anna Peterson For Mayor
By: Dale Kennedy
I largely resisted the temptation to wage in on Measures 66 & 67 as I had lived in New York City (and only from that perspective can one truly understand the meaning of taxation) and I felt that the race was largely a foregone conclusion. Forgive me for being so honest. Nevertheless, I participated in raising over $8,000 for the Campaign and spoke fairly often about what we were doing for our high net worth individuals to avoid the changes in law: moving a number of people and businesses to Washington. (We were not theorizing about the immediate impact.) As we know the Measures passed.
I feel the need to speak out this month about the importance of electing Anna Paterson for our next Mayor or Salem.
I believe that the impact of this election will be far greater in Salem than the effect of the above Measures…
Why Anna Peterson?
The Mayor matters in Salem. Look back over the last 20 years or so and you can see differences in our City. Differences that can be traced back to who held the Mayoral office. Policy matters. The face of the City matters. Look at the background of the candidates and see who or what they have invested in. See what they advance. It matters…
First, Anna has had a significant impact on the City. Think of NO METH-Not in MY Neighborhood. Anna co-founded and led the charge to take our City back from the scourge of methamphetamine. Our City is different as a result of her efforts.
Second, Anna has run a number of businesses over the years. She understands what it means to make a payroll and understands how a business runs. She will bring common sense budgeting and economics into running our City.
Third, we voted her First Citizen for her efforts over the years in supporting and building Salem. Her involvement with SEDCOR, Chamber of Commerce, Salem Public Library Foundation, Oregon Symphony Association of Salem, Elsinore Theater, and the Oregon Community Foundation is testament to her leadership capabilities.
Anna’s platform will continue (as Mayor Taylor’s did) to look for business as the foundation to our City’s livability. Jobs really do matter! Following jobs will be an emphasis on the continuing improvement of the City’s infrastructure.
Fourth, Mayor Taylor has endorsed Anna. Mayor Taylor should know who would best for us correct?
